Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate shutdown of the Secretariat of the dissolved Ad-hoc Committee on Sales of Federal Government Houses in the territory.

The directive was disclosed by the minister’s senior special assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, in a statement.

Olayinka said Wike had also approved the establishment of a dedicated division in the Department of Land Administration to take over the functions previously performed by the dissolved committee.

According to him, the decision followed the completion of the assignments of the Ad-hoc Committee, whose secretariat was retained temporarily to address issues arising from its activities.

With the closure of the secretariat, the FCT Administration directed members of the public to deal directly with the Department of Land Administration on all matters concerning the sale of Federal Government Houses in Abuja.

The administration also issued a warning against fraudulent activities, urging residents to be wary of individuals who may continue to present themselves as officials or members of the dissolved committee.

“Members of the public are also urged to be mindful of the antics and activities of fraudsters who parade themselves as staff, officers and members of the defunct Ad-Hoc Committee/Secretariat on SFGH, as the Committee and Secretariat no longer exist,” the statement said.

The FCT Administration stressed that all legitimate enquiries and transactions relating to the sale of federal government houses should henceforth be directed to the Department of Land Administration.

The move is expected to provide a clear administrative structure for handling matters relating to the sale of the houses and prevent unauthorised persons from exploiting the name of the defunct committee to defraud members of the public.
