Emir Confers Jigon Bauchi Title On Jonathan

Bauchi Emirate Council has conferred the traditional title of ‘Jigon Bauchi’ on former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in recognition of his contributions to democracy, peace and national unity.

The Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, conferred the title on Jonathan during a ceremony at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi metropolis during two-day visit to Bauchi by Jonathan.

The Emir described the former president as a good leader and commended his commitment to promoting peace, democracy and national unity in Nigeria.

Also, Bauchi State governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who led government officials and other dignitaries to the palace, thanked the Bauchi Emirate for honouring the former president.

Governor Mohammed said the conferment of the title was a recognition of Jonathan’s contributions to the development of democracy and national unity.

He said Jonathan’s leadership and contributions to Nigeria remained worthy of recognition and commendation.

Responding, former President Jonathan expressed appreciation to the Emir and people of Bauchi State for the honour.

Jonathan pledged to respect the laws, traditions and values of the Bauchi Emirate and uphold the dignity attached to the Jigon Bauchi title.

He said the honour was deeply appreciated and would further strengthen his commitment to peace, unity and democratic development in Nigeria.
