Director-general (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig-Gen. Okakunle Nafiu, has urged members of the corps to disabuse their minds from unemployment mentally and orientation.

Nafiu stated this yesterday when he addressed members of the 2026 Batch B Steam 2 at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna, Bende local government area of Abia State.

He underscored the need for them to start planning for their future by not only relying on their discipline but also acquiring skills that could make them self-employed and job creators.

While emphasising the need for them to inculcate the habit of saving to raise seed fund for their future enterprises, he noted that the sky is the limit for the ambitious ones.

“Your education is to open your mind to think. Think outside the box. Think about areas people have needs and fill the gap. That is the way to go,” the DG informed the 1,739 corps members.

He also charged them to be good ambassadors of the corps and respect the culture and values of their hosts bearing in mind that they are here to serve their fatherland.

‎”We need to synergize to derive maximum benefits from this scheme. So, I wish you all fulfilling service year and exciting time,” added Nafia, who was on official visit to the camp.

‎Earlier in his address, the state coordinator of the corps, Yunusa Taminu thanked the DG for the choice of the state for the visit which he described as a great honour and a morale booster.
