Lakurawa: Troops Launch Major Operation, Kill Scores

The Headquarters Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North West, “Operation Fansan Yamma” has launched “Operation Clean Sweep IV”, a simultaneous ground and air offensive to dismantle terrorist and armed criminal networks across the North West.

The command said the operation was designed to intensify pressure on terrorist elements, disrupt their networks, logistics and movements, and prevent them from establishing footholds in communities across the region.

In a statement issued yesterday by the media information officer, Lt-Col. Aliyu Danja, the command said troops of Sector 2 on Tuesday, conducted clearance operations around suspected terrorist enclaves in Dutsinma local government area of Katsina State.

he said the operation mounted pressure on the terrorists, compelling them to abandon their positions and withdraw into surrounding bushes.

In Zamfara State, the Air Component of “Operation Fansan Yamma”, acting on credible intelligence on the movement and convergence of terrorists on motorcycles in Anka LGA, executed precision strikes.
He said scores of terrorists were neutralised, while survivors abandoned their motorcycles and fled into the bushes.

It added that the air assets subsequently acquired and engaged the fleeing terrorists.

A major component of Operation CLEAN SWEEP IV is the deliberate effort to contain and dismantle the Lakurawa terrorist network across the Theatre.

The operation is also targeting terrorist elements operating around the River Niger axis and the Kainji Lake National Park to prevent them from using the area as a corridor for movement, logistics and projecting violence into adjoining communities.

The Theatre Command said the launch of Operation CLEAN SWEEP IV underscores its proactive and sustained posture in confronting evolving terrorist threats in the region.

It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilian communities, securing Nigeria’s territorial integrity and denying terrorist elements the opportunity to regroup, reinforce or establish operational footholds.
