Ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State, residents of the Osun West Senatorial District have expressed support for the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, declaring their readiness to vote for his re-election.

The development came as security was tightened across the state, with increased deployment of security personnel and several police checkpoints observed along the Gbongan-Oshogbo route.

In Ede, the governor’s hometown, some residents who spoke with LEADERSHIP said Adeleke’s administration had brought significant development to the area and the wider Osun West Senatorial District.

A resident, Madam Folake Ajayi, said the people of the area had decided to reciprocate what she described as the governor’s developmental efforts by voting massively for his second term.

Another resident, Mr Ajayi Olawale, said residents should allow Adeleke to complete his second term, citing the development recorded in the senatorial district under his administration.

He, however, urged politicians and their supporters to ensure peaceful conduct before, during and after the election.

“It is good for all politicians to ensure peace before, during and after the election. Nothing good will come out of violence,” he said.

Meanwhile, security presence has been visibly increased across Oshogbo, the state capital, as the election approaches.

Military personnel were observed at strategic locations along the Gbongan-Oshogbo road, while two armoured vehicles were stationed in front of the Osun State Government House in Okefia.

The heightened security presence is part of measures to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the governorship election.
