The Presidential Candidate of Accord Party (AP), Prof. Christopher Imumolen, has said that those who rely on influencing the electorate with money will be put to shame in the February 25 2023 presidential election  because winners of previous presidential elections won on merit, not monetary influence.

According to him, former presidents  including Chief Olusegun Obasanjo down to the incumbent, President Muhammadu Buhari, were not money bags yet they won the presidential election, adding that their credibility played a major role in their success.

Imumolen said this in Lagos at the “Inauguration of Lagos Chapter of Accord Party Campaign Council/Flag Handover and Presentation of Certificate of Return to party candidates for the 2023 General Elections,” which also saw him receiving a number of decampees into the fold from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking of his chances in the general elections at the event which took place in Oshodi area of Lagos State, he said he emerged Accord Party flagbearer, because of his pedigree and credibility.

Professor Imumolem said  that his party  is targeting  getting five million votes in Lagos for its governorship candidate, Hakeem Dickson.

“In Nigeria, God plays His role, it is not the highest spenders that have been voted as presidents of the country from available records. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo became president when he came out of prison, and he did not have money even in his account then.

Then came President Yar’Adua, he too did not have money, he was not a money bag and followed by President Goodluck Jonathan. If it were to be on account of financial muzzle, our current president, Muhammadu Buhari wouldn’t have become president,” he said.

Speaking further, the AP presidential candidate lamented the poor state of the country, saying that the citizens were suffering as the level of poverty kept increasing.

Imumolen said many have seen the party Accord as the only capable party that can move Nigeria forward, saying that was why the party is receiving decampees from both APC and the leading opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
