Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has expressed displeasure over the inability of appropriate authorities in the state to provide an office accommodation for the state chapter of the Nigerian Legion one year after he gave a directive to that effect.
The governor blamed unnecessary bureaucracy for the government’s inability to fulfil the promise.
He spoke Friday during the launch of the 2023 Emblem Appeal Fund Week in Bauchi.
The governor apologised for the inability of his government to fulfil the promise, adding that in one week, an office would be procured for the legionnaires.
He announced a donation of N1.5 million for this year’s Emblem Appeal Fund while his deputy gave N1 million.
Cumulatively, Bauchi State Government donated N10.3 million to celebrate this year’s armed forces Remembrance Day.
“Our fallen heroes have made the greatest sacrifices to allow us to enjoy collective lives,” he said.
Bauchi State chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Idris Danjuma Ningi, commended the government for the progress of the legion in the state.
He said retired members of the armed forces were ever ready to offer contributions to sustain and improve the current peace and harmony in the state.
The chairman emphasised the need for the government to redeem all pledges made to the legion in good time for smooth implementation.
