Algeria secured the bronze medal at the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after defeating hosts Morocco 3-2 on penalties in the third-place play-off.
The match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes before Algeria prevailed in the shoot-out to claim a podium finish.
Morocco started strongly and came close to breaking the deadlock in the 17th minute when Ibtissam Jraidi’s first-time effort struck the crossbar.
The hosts eventually took the lead nine minutes later through Kautar Azraf.
Algeria, however, refused to give up and found an equaliser in the 83rd minute.
Melissa Bethi produced an excellent through ball for Boussaha, who kept her composure to slot the ball past the Moroccan goalkeeper.
Neither side could find a winner before the final whistle, sending the contest to penalties.
Algeria held their nerve to win 3-2 and claim the bronze medal, while Morocco finished fourth.
