The All Progressives Congress(APC) has said it is studying the results of the just-concluded Osun State governorship election before deciding on its next line of action.

The party disclosed this in a statement issued by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, following the declaration of Governor Ademola Adeleke as winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Adeleke, who secured 511,067 votes to defeat the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes, had appealed to his opponent to accept the outcome and congratulate him.

However, the APC said its leadership was currently reviewing the results from the 332 wards across the state to determine whether there were grounds to pursue further legal action.

Olabisi said the party would explore all constitutional avenues available under the Electoral Act after consulting its legal team.

He said, “An election cannot be said to have been concluded without having explored all these constitutionally allowed legal opportunity to correct anomalies observed in the process of the election.”

The APC spokesman maintained that the party remained committed to the rule of law, fairness and justice, adding that it would not hesitate to challenge any irregularities identified during the election.

He urged APC members and supporters to remain calm and avoid responding to provocative actions, assuring them that the party would continue to protect their interests through lawful means.

Olabisi also appealed to the Nigeria Police Force to protect APC members who he alleged had been subjected to molestation by supporters of the ruling party.

He stressed that the party’s consideration of legal options did not amount to rejecting democracy, but was part of the constitutional process for addressing grievances arising from elections.

The APC spokesman concluded by urging party supporters not to despair, saying the party would determine its next steps after completing its review of the election results and receiving advice from its lawyers.
