Hell Is Real — Solomon Buchi Slams Pastor Tobi Adegboyega Over Hellfire Remarks

Online personality Solomon Buchi has criticised Nigerian pastor Tobi Adegboyega over comments in which the clergyman appeared to question the need for Christians to fear hell and encouraged people to focus on building successful lives and making money.

Reacting to the remarks, Buchi described Adegboyega as a “false prophet,” arguing that the pastor’s position was inconsistent with what he considers core Christian teachings on hell, righteousness and obedience to God.

Buchi, however, clarified that he does not believe fear of hell should be used as a tool to force people into serving God.

He maintained that, regardless of how the doctrine is presented, he believes hell is real because it is referenced repeatedly in the Bible.

The online personality also took issue with what he described as an emphasis on wealth and enjoying life without sufficient reference to God, righteousness and obedience.

According to Buchi, encouraging people to pursue financial success without placing their relationship with God at the centre of the message risks presenting an incomplete picture of Christian living.

He also challenged Adegboyega’s apparent argument that hell could not be confirmed because nobody had died, gone there and returned to provide firsthand evidence.

Buchi questioned the logic behind such reasoning, arguing that applying the same standard to other matters of Christian faith could lead to similar doubts about the existence of Jesus Christ.

The disagreement has sparked conversations online about the place of hellfire in Christian preaching and whether contemporary religious leaders should emphasise fear of punishment, prosperity and personal success, or focus more heavily on faith, righteousness and obedience.

While some Christians continue to regard the doctrine of hell as an essential part of biblical teaching, others have increasingly questioned the use of fear-based messages in religious preaching.

The exchange between Buchi and Adegboyega has consequently added to a broader debate within Christian communities about how biblical teachings should be communicated in an era where social media has made sermons, opinions and theological disagreements accessible to millions of people.
