Board Lauds Kaduna Gov For Setting Up Skills Development Institute

The executive secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof.  Idris Bugaje, has commended Governor Uba Sani for establishing a world-class vocational institute in Nigeria.

He said the facility had become the hub of skills development in the country.

Bugaje made the commendation on Monday during a visit by the management of the Kaduna State Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development (KIVTSD) led by the provost, Alhaji Husaini Haruna Muhammed, to his office in Kaduna.

He described the institute as a bold and visionary step by the governor to re-establish technical and vocational education and address the challenge of unemployment in the state.

“Kaduna State has set the pace. KIVTSD is a world-class vocational institute, and today it has become the hub of skills development in Nigeria,” the NBTE boss stated.

“The governor’s effort to establish the institute is worthy of commendation and emulation by other state governors,” he said.

Bugaje said Nigeria currently imports skilled labour from Benin, India, Indonesia and even Togo, adding that the training institute in Kaduna is set to change that narrative.

“With institutions like KIVTSD, we will begin to export skilled labour instead of importing. Governor Uba Sani has laid a foundation that will create jobs, reduce poverty and empower thousands of youths,” he added.

In his remarks, the Provost of KIVTSD, Alhaji Husaini Haruna Muhammed, said the institute was born out of the Governor’s vision to bridge the gap between unemployment and opportunity by equipping young Nigerians with practical, industry-relevant skills.

He highlighted some of the institute’s activities. He appealed to the Executive Secretary to consider KIVTSD among the institutes that will train Quality Assurance Assessors, QAA and Internal Quality Assurance Managers, IQAM, organised by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“KIVTSD is a legacy project of His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani. We are producing job-ready graduates through 80% practical training across 13+ trade areas, and we have a target of 32,000 skilled graduates,” the Provost “said.

He noted that the institute is also collaborating with Panteka Market in Kaduna and has established an innovation and production department to sell its products to MDAs, local governments, and other stakeholders.

The KIVTSD management team also briefed the NBTE Executive Secretary on the institute’s facilities nd expansion plans across the state.

The institute operates three campuses in Rigachikun, Soba, and Samaru Kataf, with NBTE recognition and certification partnerships with NABTEB and other awarding bodies.
