The Gombe State Government has approved N260 million for the relocation of Tudun Hatsi Market to Dukku Road. The officials said the move is part of efforts to improve urban planning, ease traffic management and create a more organised trading environment.
The approval, announced in a press briefing by the Commissioner for Information, Strategy and Culture, Moses Kyari Bolda, comprises N200 million for the relocation and associated infrastructure, as well as an additional N60 million to compensate individuals affected by the exercise.
According to the government, the relocation is intended to provide traders and residents with a safer and more conducive environment while bringing greater order to commercial activities in the area.
The government said the exercise would also preserve a historical mosque located within the current market area as a state monument, while contributing to better traffic management and improved commercial planning.
The compensation provision, it added, reflects the administration’s consideration for the interests and livelihoods of people who may be affected by the relocation.
The commissioner added that the relocation forms part of a series of approvals by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya aimed at addressing infrastructure, education and socio-economic needs across the state.
He said the market intervention was designed to relocate traders and to create an opportunity for commercial activities to operate from a more suitable location.
Bolda described the approvals as part of the administration’s broader commitment to orderly and sustainable urban development, improved public service delivery and the responsible deployment of public resources.
