A political support group, the Rtd. IGP Adamu 2027 Movement, has faulted Governor Abdullahi Sule over his recent comment that he would be glad to hand over the state to Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada.

Governor Sule had while hosting stakeholders of a support group led by Gamji Mada and the Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development, Hon. Yakubu Kwanta, at the Government House in Lafia, recently declared full ownership of the “Wadada Project” ahead of the 2027 elections.

“If anybody calls it the Wadada Project, indeed, this is my project. The reason is that I will be the happiest human being on earth the day I hand over the leadership of this state to Wadada,” Governor Sule was quoted as saying.

However, speaking to LEADERSHIP on the development on Wednesday in Lafia, the chairman, Contact & Mobilization Team of the Rtd. IGP Adamu 2027 Movement, Isa Nathaniel JP, said the group found the governor’s expression troubling.

“While every political leader has the right to support a preferred candidate, we consider it necessary to state clearly that Nasarawa State is not a political inheritance that can be handed over from one individual to another,” Nathaniel stated.

According to him, the future of the state belongs to its people and will be determined by the electorate, not by endorsements or private arrangements.

“The future of Nasarawa belongs to its people. The people, not political endorsements, private arrangements, campaign structures or vested interests, will determine who governs the state in 2027,” he said.

Nathaniel stressed that in a democracy, a governor does not hand over the state as personal property, adding that the people’s mandate must remain sovereign.

“More importantly, the future of Nasarawa State cannot be auctioned to commercial interests or reduced to political and economic transactions. The people deserve leadership based on competence, integrity, accountability, vision and genuine commitment to the development of the state,” the statement added.

He clarified that the group’s position should not be seen as a personal attack on Senator Wadada, noting that the senator has every constitutional right to contest and seek support.

“Political support or endorsement must never be presented as a substitute for the free choice of the electorate,” he said.

The Movement called for a 2027 contest based on issues, competence, credibility, accountability and service to the people, “rather than entitlement, succession arrangements or commercial interests.”

“Nasarawa is not an inheritance! Nasarawa is not a commodity!! Nasarawa is not for sale!!! Its future cannot be auctioned to commercial interests or predetermined in private political arrangements. In 2027, the people of Nasarawa State, not any individual, will decide who governs them,” the statement concluded.

The group vowed to continue to engage the people peacefully and democratically while defending their right to determine the future of the state.
