The police in Bauchi State have arrested a man identified as Balarabe Adamu for allegedly defiling his eight-month-old stepdaughter in Toro local government area of the state.
Adamu, a resident of Lame in the same local government area, was accused of sexually abusing the infant after she was brought to his residence by his wife.
Police spokesman SP Nafiu Habib said yesterday in a statement that the command received a report of the incident on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the baby was immediately taken to the General Hospital in Toro where for medical examination and treatment.
The statement said police operatives attached to the Gumau Division responded to the report and arrested the suspect who is currently in police custody, undergoing investigation.
The commissioner of police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the act and assured that the case would be thoroughly investigated.
He further said the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation in accordance with the law.
He advised parents, guardians and community leaders to be vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
