Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for greater attention to adult education, saying literacy is fundamental to personal empowerment and national development.
In her message to commemorate the 60th anniversary of International Literacy Day 2026, Senator Tinubu noted that the theme of this year’s celebration is “Literacy for People, the Planet and Prosperity.”
The first lady said there was a need for greater attention to adult education in Nigeria.
According to her, when adults can read, write and acquire basic digital and financial skills, they are better equipped to improve their livelihoods, grow their businesses, make informed decisions and support their children’s education.
“This important milestone provides another opportunity to renew our commitment to ensuring that no Nigerian is denied the opportunity to learn because of age or circumstance,” she said.
Mrs Tinubu urged Nigerians to work together to build a more literate, productive and prosperous nation.
“Let us work together to build a more literate, productive and prosperous nation,” she stated.
