Minister of aviation and aerospace development, Festus Keyamo has engaged major global aviation Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and other industry stakeholders on opportunities to upgrade Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure and strengthen the competitiveness of the country’s air transport sector.
Keyamo held high-level meetings with representatives of leading aviation OEMs and stakeholders on the sidelines of the second edition of the El Alamein International Airshow in Egypt, where he explored areas of technical and strategic collaboration that could support the modernisation of aviation facilities and systems across Nigeria.
The engagements, according to the minister, were particularly important as Nigeria seeks to improve efficiency, safety and competitiveness in its aviation industry while creating the foundation for sustainable growth.
According the minister, “The occasion afforded us the opportunity to meet major OEMs from around the world and engage in discussions regarding upgrading our aviation infrastructure across the country.
“These engagements are important as we continue to position Nigeria’s aviation industry for greater efficiency, safety, competitiveness and sustainable growth.”
The minister also held discussions with a delegation from Saudi Arabia on early preparations for the 2027 Hajj airlift operations.
The talks focused on improving coordination and planning for the transportation of Nigerian pilgrims to and from Saudi Arabia, with emphasis on ensuring a more seamless aviation component of the annual pilgrimage.
Keyamo stressed the importance of commencing preparations early, noting that advance planning would be critical to achieving more efficient coordination of air transportation arrangements for Nigerian pilgrims during the 2027 Hajj season.
The El Alamein International Airshow, which attracted major players in the global aerospace and aviation industry, provided Nigeria an opportunity to strengthen relationships with manufacturers and other critical stakeholders in the sector.
