‎‎“I Have Spent Over N8bn On Building A Film Village” – Kunle Afolayan Shares His Challenges As A Filmmaker 

‎Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has shared his challenges as a filmmaker.

‎In a recent interview, he disclosed that when he shot the Anikulapo film, they didn’t have accommodation and were squatting in people’s houses. As such, he said he had to build 100 rooms in his film village.

‎The award-winning filmmaker said he has spent over eight billion naira of his own money building a film village, yet has no government support. Kunle also lamented how he has spent heavily on electricity, diesel and solar, yet it isn’t enough.

‎“When we shot Anikulapo film, we didn’t have accommodation. We were squatting in people’s houses. I had to build 100 rooms in the film village.

‎I’ve spent over N8 billion of my own money building a film village, yet I get no government support. We don’t even have electricity. I’ve spent millions on diesel and had to spend N200 million on solar, but even that isn’t enough”.

‎In March, Afolayan had won hearts as he treated Odunlade Adekola, Toyin Abraham, Mercy Aigbe, Timini, Kamo State, Bolaji Ogunmola, Yemi Solade, Ronke Oshodi, Kiitan Bukola and more to a small party at his film village. Kunle expressed how important it is for him to celebrate them, especially the younger creatives among the team.

‎Last year, the Anikulapo filmmaker hailed Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for keeping his promise to reconstruct the road to his film village. Kunle said the road opens doors as it is a corridor of possibility for filmmakers, farmers, young creatives, and the entire local economy.

‎He unveiled his 115-seater cinema in 2025, sharing a video of himself, Seyi Vodi, and others checking out the cinema, celebrating himself for the great work he has done in movies and the entertainment industry.
