Taraba State Internal Revenue Service (TIRS) has taken its enforcement and sensitisation campaign on Pay As You Earn tax to various employers and institutions in Takum local government area.

The move is aimed at plugging revenue leakages, compelling accurate and timely tax remittances and strengthening the state’s internally generated revenue base.

The director, PAYE, Mrs Alice Sam Tsokwa, who led the operation saw officials of the Service visiting selected organisations and establishments in Takum to scrutinise tax deductions and remittances.
The establishments visited included Caritas, Ummodah Filing Station, TY Danjuma Academy, Taraba Fishery, Harmony Hotel, CRCN Headquarters, Takum, as well as the TIRS Area Office.

During the exercise, Tsokwa, along side the PAYE team examined records relating to tax deductions and remittances, identified areas of non-compliance and inconsistencies, and engaged employers and employees on their statutory tax obligations.

The director also provided practical guidance to the organisations on proper computation, deduction and timely remittance of PAYE taxes, and highlighted areas requiring corrective action.

According to her, the exercise forms part of the broader reforms to strengthen tax administration, widen the tax base and encourage voluntary compliance among taxpayers across the state.

She said, sustained taxpayer engagement remained critical to building an efficient, transparent and taxpayer-friendly revenue system capable of improving government revenue.
