We’ll Not Forgive, Slain Kano Social Media Personality’s Son Vows

The eldest son of slain Kano-based social media personality, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, Ammar Ibrahim Dan Shagamu, has demanded justice for his father, saying the family will not forgive those responsible for his death.

Speaking exclusively with LEADERSHIP, Ammar described his father’s death as a heartbreaking loss, saying he and his five siblings were still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

“My five siblings and I are now left orphaned. We are still in deep sadness and grief over the death of our father,” he said.

Ammar, who said he had left home about four years ago, recalled how he was suddenly called back with the news of his father’s gruesome murder.

“After leaving home four years ago, I was suddenly called home with the news of my father’s gruesome murder.

“The details surrounding the murder are still hazy for me because I didn’t even know he had faced any threats until I came home after his death,” he said.

According to him, Dan Shagamu had recently moved from their original area to Gaida, where he stayed with a friend.

“He had left our original area and recently moved to Gaida, where he stayed with a friend, but he faced some issues with some people, based on the accounts I got from our relatives.

“They tried to stop him from giving alms and sweets to kids in the area, and it led to a misunderstanding that led to some boys making death threats towards him.

“He recorded it and sent it to some of our relatives, and the boys are now suspects in the case. They are in police custody,” Ammar said.

He said the family was still trying to piece together what happened during his father’s final moments.

“The only thing neighbours and eyewitnesses could tell me about my father’s last moments is that they last saw him enter his house after Maghrib, and two people followed him inside.

“After a while, the two people came out, but he didn’t, and that is the last time anyone saw him alive.

“But no one can tell us who the two people were, and I don’t know if they are the same men in custody or not,” he said.

Ammar said the family was relying on the police investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing.

“The police commissioner himself came to console us, and they are still conducting an investigation, so we are hopeful the truth will be revealed,” he said.

He also cautioned against drawing conclusions about a possible political motive behind the killing.

“Although he is a critic, we can’t conclusively say his murder had anything to do with politics or any group of people he might have offended,” Ammar said.

He, however, said the family wanted those responsible for the killing to be brought to justice.

“Nevertheless, we have already experienced the ultimate loss, and nothing can give us back what we have lost, so we will not forgive because a life taken cannot be given back,” he said.

Dan Shagamu was a popular social media influencer, video creator and political commentator in Kano. He was known for his outspoken views on political, religious and community issues and had a large following on Facebook and TikTok.

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with his death and said the investigation is ongoing.

Kwankwaso condemns the killing of Kano political commentator Dan Shagamu

Former Kano State Governor and New Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Vice Presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has condemned the killing of political commentator Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu.

In a statement, Kwankwaso described the attack as horrific and expressed deep concern over the circumstances of the death.

He called on the Kano State Government to set up an investigative panel immediately to probe the killing and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Kwankwaso warned that if the authorities fail to act decisively and transparently, an incoming NDC administration would launch its own comprehensive investigation and hold those responsible accountable.

Gwarzo Condemns Killing of Social Media Critic in Kano

The Kano State governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has condemned the alleged murder of social media critic Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu in Gaida, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

This was contained in a statement signed by Gwarzo’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, and made available to journalists in Kano on Thursday. In the statement, Gwarzo described the killing as “heinous, barbaric and totally condemnable.”

Gwarzo said the incident was deeply disturbing and heartbreaking, stressing that no individual should lose their life because of their opinions, criticism or political views.

He called on security agencies to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the incident, identify those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice.

Dan Shagamu was reportedly attacked and killed inside his residence in Gaida. The incident has raised concerns among residents about the safety of citizens who use social media to express their views.

Police arrest 2 suspects over Kano social media killings

The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the death of social media influencer Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu, a resident of Gaida Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued to the press in Kano.

According to him, the incident occurred on Monday, 8 September, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m., when the Command received a distress call from the Commander of the Gaida Vigilante Group that unknown hoodlums had forcibly entered the deceased’s residence and attacked him with sharp objects.

Kiyawa said operatives of the Kumbotso Police Division immediately responded to the distress call and evacuated the victim to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano for emergency medical attention.

He, however, said Danshagamu was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor.

The PPRO said that following the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Divisional Police Officer, Kumbotso, in collaboration with tactical units and community stakeholders, launched an intelligence-driven operation that led to the arrest of two suspects allegedly linked to the incident.

He said the suspects were in police custody and being interrogated, while efforts had been intensified to apprehend other persons who might be connected to the crime.
