UNIJOS Increases Intake Of Foreign Students

Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos Prof Tanko Ishaya has said the institution matriculated 75 international students from 20 African countries for the 2025/2026 academic session, building on previous enrollments of 67 students from 13 countries in the 2024/2025 session.

Speaking during the re-launch of the varsity’s Jos Alumni Centre yesterday, he said the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) named UNIJOS the top prize winner at the 6th National Tertiary

Admissions Performance-Merit (NATAP-M) Awards in May 2026, awarding the university N500 million for having the highest number of international student admissions and strict adherence to guidelines.
He described the university as a leading destination for international students in Nigeria through transparent admissions and robust academic reforms.

Also speaking, the chairman of the occasion and former member representing Jos South/Jos East Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Musa Bagos, said he was honoured to chair the re-launch of the Jos Alumni Centre.

He commended the alumni’s global president, Dr. Gad Shamaki for his leadership and the steadfastness of the vice-chancellor, Prof. Ishaya Tanko and the university council members for their commitment.

According to him, the coming together of University of Jos alumni to build and strengthen the Alumni Centre is a powerful demonstration of commitment, unity, and the enduring values learned from the university.

“This is more than a building; it is a symbol of shared history, identity, service, and commitment to giving back to the institution and building the next generation.

Dr. Gad Shamaki in his remarks said the project would be completed before the end of February 2027 and is expected to cost close to N200m.

He said the Alumni Centre is envisioned as a hub for the alumni association, a place where students can connect, collaborate, hold meetings and programmes, build networks, and continue to contribute meaningfully to the development of the university and its alumni.
