8 Kano Gov’ship Candidates To Sign Peace Accord

Kano State Peace Committee in collaboration with the National Peace Committee, headed by General Abdussalam Abubakar is to sign the peace accord with eight gubernatorial candidates, ahead of the general election.

The Kano Peace Committee (KPC), an affiliate of the National Peace Committee co – chaired by Emeritus Professor Ibrahim H. Umar   and Most. Rev. Bishop Dr. John Namaza Niyiring was established to facilitate peace in Kano State especially before, during and after elections.

The Head of Secretariat of the Peace Committee, Ambassador Ibrahim A. Waiya, said they have over time facilitated and organised the 1st and 2nd signing of the Peace Accord in Kano State, in collaboration with the National Peace Committee, before the conduct of the 2019 general elections in the state.

The signing of the accord was chaired by the chairman, National Peace Committee, Gen. Abdussalami Abubakar.

Waiya said as the 2023 general elections are fast approaching, the Kano Peace Committee (KPC), in collaboration with National Peace Committee with support from United Nations Office for West Africa and The Sahel, is set to organise a high-level stakeholders’ meeting in Kano, during which the peace accord signing will take place.

He added that the gubernatorial candidates from eight political parties are expected to attend and sign the peace accord.

The programme is expected to be attended by the representatives of the stakeholders’ groups and organizations which will include: traditional, religious and community leaders, security agencies, women and youth groups/academics, respected elder statesmen, business community, media, civil society, PWDs and others.
