Billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote has expressed confidence in the next generation of his family, saying he does not see having a son as necessary to secure his legacy.

Speaking during an interview with Arise News, Dangote said he was satisfied with the achievements of his three daughters — Mariya, Halima and Fatima — and rejected the idea that a male heir would necessarily have produced better results.

“I don’t think a son would have done better than the three daughters I have,” he said.

The 69-year-old businessman said he preferred to accept what God had given him rather than pursue a particular family outcome simply because of expectations surrounding male heirs.

“That is not my priority because God controls everything. You can pray for God to give you a son, but he might be the one to take down the name of the family. Sometimes, when God doesn’t give you something, don’t push,” he said.

Dangote also spoke about what will happen to his wealth after his lifetime, reaffirming an agreement for one-third of his estate to go towards philanthropy through the Aliko Dangote Foundation.

He said the arrangement had been formally documented to ensure the foundation could continue using the funds to support people after his death.

Beyond family and wealth, Dangote offered advice to young people pursuing success, urging them to work hard, remain focused and consistent, and resist the temptation to rush the process.

The comments come as questions around the future stewardship of Dangote’s vast business interests continue to attract public attention.
