The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Kaduna State University (KASU) branch, has rejected the proposed selective implementation of the newly negotiated Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) agreements for academic staff.

JAC called on the Kaduna State government to extend the implementation to all recognised staff unions in the university, saying excluding non-academic staff would be unfair and could undermine industrial harmony.

It made the position known in a statement signed by its acting chairman, Comrade Aliyu Garba, and secretary, Comrade Dahiru Musa, after its executive committee meeting held at the SSANU Conference Room, KASU.

The unions said that universities that had implemented the FGN agreement did so for all recognised unions in their respective institutions, without discrimination.

JAC urged the state government to adopt an inclusive approach that recognises the contributions of both academic and non-academic staff to the university’s effective functioning and development.

It said the university was a collective enterprise sustained by the contributions of academic and non-academic workers, stressing that no category of staff should be deliberately excluded from benefits arising from negotiated agreements.

The committee, therefore, demanded fairness and equal treatment for all the unions in the implementation of the FGN/University-based Unions Agreements at KASU.
