The Coalition For Good Governance (CGG) has expressed outrage at the brutal killing and destruction of property, which occurred on Saturday at the home of CUPP Spokesman, Mr. Ikenga Ugochinyere, in Umukegwu Akokwa, Imo State.

CGG said the invasion and bombardment of Ugochinyere’s home with bullets of unknown assailants in broad daylight left three persons dead inclusive of his Uncle, Dan and burning of numerous vehicles beyond recognition without any rescue from security agents and Police.

The CGG, therefore, called for immediate investigation of the attack in order to unmask the perpetrators and made them face justice.

The Coalition in a statement jointly signed by Engr. Sir Okey Chikwendu and Don Anthony Harmattan, said the attack was an attack on democracy and civil liberties.

“We wish to make clear without equivocation that the attack on Ikenga Ugochinyere Imo is an attack on Democracy and civil liberties for which the government in power swore to an oath to protect lives and properties of all Nigerians and one wonders why the home of a CUPP spokesman will face arson attack for hours without any form of rescue from the security forces.

“We urge the Federal Government, the Nigerian Police, security operatives and all men of goodwill to swing into action to unravel the invaders and killers of Mr Dan, the Uncle of Ikenga Ugochinyere Imo and bring them to justice.

“At a time like this and as Nigerians prepare for the 2023 polls, any attempt to snuf off any life and destroy properties of political opponents will amount to creating anarchy in the society which is totally unacceptable to Nigerians, hence we call for immediate action to find the murderers and perpetrators of this dastardly act on Ikenga Ugochinyere Imo,” CGG stated.
