As the political atmosphere heats up ahead of 2027 general elections, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Cross River State, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong, has accused the state government of plotting to unleash violence through cult groups ahead of the polls.

Archibong, made the allegation while addressing newsmen  Wednesday,l on Çàlabar, stating  that the government has plans to unleashed  violence because of what he described as widespread dissatisfaction with Jarvis growing acceptance across the three senatorial districts of the state.
“We are aware that this government is planning unprecedented violence through cultism before, during, and after elections, but we are not afraid because God is our shield and buckler,” he said.
Jarvis alleged that a recent advertorial linked to the state government had exposed “the odious and evil fabric” of the administration, which he accused of promoting “cultism and syncretism.”
The PDP candidate linked the alleged plot to a deliberate smear campaign of calumny against him, following an advertorial questioning his character.
He denied having any criminal record, describing the publication as an attempt to tarnish his hard earned reputation.
“I dare anyone with criminal records against me to make same public or forever remain silent. I am an honest, clean, and hardworking citizen of Cross River State in particular and Nigeria at large.
“I have no criminal records on any matter, anywhere in Nigeria,” he said. He maintained that his campaign has focused on issues, accusing the government of introducing damaging personality politics, and warning, he  who sows the wind reaps the whirlwind.”
But in a swift reaction  to the Issue, Spokesperson for ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State Mr Emmanuel Inyang dismissed Archibong’s claims of  cult-related violence plot.
Inyang  stated that the allegation was from a party not prepared to face the electorate. “The allegation is from a party that is not prepared to face the people, and we can only advise them to get ready to face the ultimate defeat that lay ahead of them,” he said.
The publicity secretary insisted that the people remained with the APC for providing good governance in the past three years stressing that the PDP would failed woefully in the 2027 polls.
