Association Trains Benue Farmers On Improved Cassava Yield

The Sasakawa Africa Association has trained 350 farmers in Buruku local government area of Benue State on cassava seed and stem production as part of efforts to boost income and strengthen agribusiness.

The programme officer inclusive markets and agribusiness development of SAA, Jonathan Yassah, stated this in Mbatie, Buruku LGA while speaking on the association’s intervention in cassava production.

Yassah said the farmers, under the Divine Open Doors Multipurpose Cooperative, were trained to produce quality cassava stems for commercial sale, noting that the business is already generating millions of naira per hectare for some farmers.

He said the intervention was designed to move farmers beyond cultivating cassava for consumption to becoming commercial producers of improved planting materials.

Yassah said the 350 farmers were organised into smaller clusters to promote cohesion and enable them to achieve common production targets, adding that the farmers would also receive support in the form of tractors and other farm inputs to scale up production.
