The Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CICAN), Abuja chapter, has strengthened its ties with the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) ahead of its 20th anniversary celebration.

The development followed a courtesy visit by members of the CICAN anniversary planning committee to the ACCI, where they formally invited its First Deputy President, Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, to deliver the keynote address at the anniversary.

Adesugba, a former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), also pledged to mobilise corporate support for the celebration through his position at the chamber.

CICAN chairman, Gabriel Kuma, disclosed this after the meeting, saying the visit was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the association and the chamber.

Kuma said Adesugba expressed appreciation for the invitation and assured the delegation that he would deliver the keynote address.

“He appreciated the role CICAN members played in supporting him during his time at NEPZA and assured us that he would deliver the keynote address as requested,” he said.

According to Kuma, Adesugba also pledged to approach corporate organisations for support, particularly companies that could contribute products and services to the anniversary rather than cash donations.

“He assured us that he would leverage his office to seek corporate support from companies that may not necessarily provide cash donations but could support the event with products and other resources,” Kuma said.

The CICAN chairman further disclosed that Adesugba pledged personal support for the celebration and indicated that the President of ACCI would also provide assistance within the chamber’s capacity.

Kuma said the engagement represented a significant step towards deepening collaboration between CICAN and ACCI, particularly in promoting commerce and industry journalism.

He added that the relationship could further deepen as Adesugba is expected to assume the presidency of ACCI later in the year.

“We intend to continue nurturing this relationship for the benefit of CICAN and the advancement of commerce and industry journalism,” Kuma said.
