Rice, Palmer, 3 Others Ruled Out Of England Vs. Spain Clash

England have suffered five injury withdrawals ahead of their opening 2026/27 UEFA Nations League fixture against Spain at Wembley on Saturday.

Declan Rice, Cole Palmer, Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo and Tino Livramento have all withdrawn from Thomas Tuchel’s squad, the Football Association confirmed.

The five players were initially included in Tuchel’s 27-man squad but will now miss the opening fixtures of England’s Nations League campaign.

Arsenal midfielder Rice is among the most experienced absentees, having featured in England’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Chelsea forward Palmer was also expected to return to the England set-up after missing the previous international programme, but an injury has ruled him out.

Barcelona loanee Rashford is another notable absentee after being selected by Tuchel for the Nations League campaign.

Manchester United midfielder Mainoo has also withdrawn, while Newcastle defender Livramento completes the list of injured players.

Livramento had also missed part of England’s World Cup campaign after suffering a calf injury in training.

Tuchel has moved quickly to reinforce his squad, calling up Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White and Everton midfielder James Garner.

Garner has two senior England caps, while Gibbs-White has made six appearances for the Three Lions.

England will begin their Nations League campaign against Spain at Wembley on Saturday, September 26.

They will then face Czechia twice, with a trip to Croatia also scheduled during the extended international window.
