Hayden Panettiere’s divorced parents reportedly disagreed over who should receive a pair of earrings removed from the actress’ body after her death, according to a coroner’s report.
The report, obtained by TMZ, stated that several stud earrings were removed from Panettiere’s body and placed in a sealed purple plastic bag.
Authorities Held The Jewellery
A senior deputy was reportedly given the bag before contacting Panettiere’s parents, Alan “Skip” Panettiere and Lesley Vogel, about the actress’ personal effects.
According to the report, both parents wanted the earrings. Authorities subsequently declined to release the jewellery, informing the former couple that the items would remain with them until an agreement was reached over Panettiere’s belongings.
The report did not indicate whether the disagreement was eventually resolved or whether the earrings were later handed to either parent.
Parents Divorced In 2016
Panettiere’s parents separated in 2008 and later began divorce proceedings, with their divorce finalised in 2016.
Skip attended his daughter’s funeral following her death, while Vogel reportedly did not attend despite receiving an invitation.
Panettiere, known for roles in Heroes and Nashville, died aged 36. Her death was ruled accidental, with the coroner attributing it to the toxic effects of fentanyl and other substances.
The disagreement over the earrings was treated separately from the determination of her cause of death, with the jewellery remaining in authorities’ custody until her parents could reach an agreement.
