Police Confirm Killing Of 4 Persons In Bauchi Community

The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed that four people were killed and one person kidnapped in Gambar Sabon Layi village in Tafawa Balewa local government area of Bauchi State.

In a release issued yesterday by police public relations officer Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, he said a distress call was received that unknown gunmen have invaded Gambar Sabon Layi village and attacked residents.

He said, “A distress call received by the command on the 22nd January 2023 at about 0345hrs indicates that on the same date at about 0200hrs, some unknown gunmen invaded Gambar Sabon Layi village and attacked innocent residents.”

Wakil added that immediately after receiving the report, detectives of the command were drafted to the scene led by the DPO Tafawa Balewa Divisional Police Headquarters who evacuated the victims to the Tafawa Balewa General Hospital for medical treatment.

According to him, four victims were certified dead by the medical doctor, while one person sustained various degrees of injury during the attack.

Similarly, one person was confirmed to have been kidnapped to an unknown destination by the assailants.

Wakil also said the state commissioner of police, CP Aminu Alhassan has ordered a discreet investigation to commence in earnest to arrest the perpetrators of this dastardly act to face the wrath of the law.

In another development, Wakil said the command acted on credible intelligence and uncovered an armory of suspected kidnappers.

“On the 22nd January 2023, a patrol team attached to Liman Katagum Divisional Police headquarters led by the DPO while on patrol around the Tudun Wada area of Liman Katagum, Bauchi LGA. Consequently, an underground armory was uncovered and the following items were recovered; Three (3) AK47 rifles One (1) LAR rifle; 49 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition; nine AK47 magazines; one pair of army camouflage jackets as well as one pair of police camouflage trousers,” he said.

According to the statement, while commending the operatives, the commissioner of police, CP Aminu Alhassan ordered round-the-clock surveillance around the area in a bid to arrest the miscreants.
