Kaduna State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed three commissioner-nominees forwarded to it by Governor Uba Sani.
The nominees were confirmed after being screened by the House during yesterday’s plenary, presided over by the speaker, Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman.
The nominees are Ben Kure, designated commissioner for Sports Development; Amina Akilu-Dalhat, commissioner for Special Duties I and Abdullahi Garba Abbas, commissioner for Special Duties II.
After the screening, Ben Kure, the immediate past managing director of Kaduna State Media Corporation, said he would focus on using sports to promote youth development, health and unity in the state.
He said sports had the capacity to unite people across religious and other social divides because of its emphasis on inclusion and sportsmanship.
Kure added that he would collaborate with officials of the ministry to understand its operations and align his activities with the governor’s vision for sports development.
According to him, the ongoing rehabilitation of sporting facilities, including the Ahmadu Bello Stadium and Ranchers Bees Stadium, would provide more opportunities for young people to participate in sports.
Kure said with youths constituting a significant proportion of the state’s population, investment in sports would help promote physical fitness while creating opportunities for talented young people.
Also speaking, Akilu-Dalhat said her appointment as Commissioner for Special Duties would enable her to contribute to the development of Kaduna State by working with other ministries to implement special projects.
She said the ministry would receive direction from the governor and focus on projects designed to make direct impact on the lives of residents.
Akilu-Dalhat said particular attention would be given to women and youths in implementing the government’s agenda.
Meanwhile, the House introduced a bill seeking to regulate private health facilities and health-related institutions in the state through the establishment of a regulatory agency for the sector.
The chairman, House Committee on Education and member representing Zaria City Constituency, Hon. Mahmud Lawal Ismaila, said the bill was aimed at regulating the establishment, licensing, accreditation and operations of private health facilities.
According to Ismaila, the proposed agency would address the proliferation of unlicensed and unqualified private health facilities in the state.
He said the agency would be responsible for issuing licences, approving the establishment of private health facilities and ensuring that operators complied with prescribed standards before commencing operations.
