Acting clerk to the National Assembly (NASS), Sani Magaji Tambawal, has inaugurated the central planning committees for the inauguration and induction programme of the incoming 10th National Assembly and payment of severance allowances to legislators and legislative aides of the 9th National Assembly.

The tenure of the 9th Assembly will end in June this year to pave the way for elected federal lawmakers of the 10th Assembly.

Performing the ceremony at the National Assembly yesterday, the acting clerk noted that the induction programmes serve as a veritable platform to initiate new Members into their new workplace.

According to him, it also serves as a refresher programme on legislative practice and procedure for returning Members and Senators.

The committee, which is to be chaired by the acting deputy clerk to the National Assembly, Kamaru Ogunlana, has its membership drawn from the National Assembly management,  National Assembly Service commissioner, other top management staff drawn from National Assembly Management National Assembly Service Commission, National Institute for Democratic and Legislative Studies and representatives of civil society organisations.

Tambuwal said in choosing members of the two committees, a deliberate attempt was made to select very diligent, honest and hardworking officers for the assignments.

The clerk charged the committee members to work in accordance with their track records of high performance, expressing the optimism that they will justify the confidence reposed in them  by the management.
