Residents of Idogun Community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State have appealed to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to extend development projects to the community, saying it remains deficient in basic infrastructure.

The residents made the call at a get-together on Wednesday to mark one year of peaceful coexistence in the community.

They said although Idogun had maintained peace over the past year, the government needed to complement the development by addressing its infrastructure and other needs.

The community experienced a crisis in October 2025 when some youths reportedly attacked the traditional ruler, Oba Moses Bakare, and his wife during the annual New Yam Festival.

The monarch subsequently left the community.

Following the incident, community leaders managing the affairs of Idogun called on the government to approve the appointment of a regent to fill the vacant traditional leadership position.

Speaking at Wednesday’s event, one of the community’s traditional chiefs, Chief Roland Obasan, said the community had remained peaceful for 12 months and needed government intervention to sustain its development.

Obasan appealed for support in education, agricultural empowerment and the appointment of indigenes to positions in the state government.

He said, “We are the chiefs here, and we have been maintaining peace and tranquillity within the town. There is no problem up till now; at least twice a month, we have meetings on the improvement of the town.”

The chief also called for greater involvement of youths from the community in the state administration.

On education, he said some primary schools in the community were experiencing declining enrolment, possibly due to inadequate teaching personnel.

“We want the government to help in this regard. Apart from that, we want empowerment in the area of farming. We want the government to support us in providing some farm tools, because this is an agrarian town; we want to improve it,” he added.

Another community leader, Juliet Abosede, popularly known as Yeye Meto, said the gathering was organised to celebrate the peace the community had enjoyed since the monarch left following the crisis.

She said residents had learnt from the previous crisis and were working collectively to maintain peace through regular meetings with elders.

“We are celebrating our freedom, individuals’ freedom from crisis. We have learnt from our mistakes, and we are maintaining the peace that we are enjoying today,” she said.

Abosede also appealed to Aiyedatiwa to address the community’s infrastructural needs and provide what she described as a special institution to support development in Idogun.

“Apart from the peace we are enjoying, we are calling on the government, especially the governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to come to our aid in terms of infrastructural developments,” she added.
