Nigerian airline, XEJet Limited, has commenced direct flight operations between Abuja and Gusau, Zamfara State, opening a new air connectivity link between the Federal Capital Territory and the state capital.
The inaugural flight, which took off from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 2:00pm on Monday, October 5, 2026, arrived safely at the Gusau International Airport, where it was received by government officials, airport management and other dignitaries.
The new service is scheduled to operate twice weekly with an Embraer ERJ-145MP aircraft, providing passengers with a direct alternative to road transportation between Abuja and Zamfara.
Speaking on the inaugural departure, the general manager of XEJet Express, Hamzat Bukar said the new route would improve accessibility to Zamfara while supporting tourism, trade and cultural exchanges.
Bukar said the service would particularly benefit business travellers, government officials and families, while strengthening XEJet’s presence in key domestic markets.
“This service will make travel more accessible and convenient for business travelers, government officials, and families alike. We are committed to supporting the growth of the region and delivering the safe, reliable service our passengers expect,” he said.
He added that the Gusau route formed part of the airline’s wider expansion plans across Africa, with further developments expected in the coming months.
Receiving the inaugural flight, the managing director of Gusau International Airport, Kabir Yahaya Gusau described the development as a significant milestone for the airport and the people of Zamfara State.
He said the successful arrival marked the first time the airport had welcomed passengers, commending XEJet for partnering with the airport to provide residents with an additional travel option.
“Today marks the first time Gusau International Airport has welcomed passengers, and I am delighted to say everything went smoothly,” Yahaya Gusau said.
He expressed appreciation to the airline’s management for the partnership, saying the new service would provide the people of Zamfara with a more convenient means of travelling by air.
The commencement of the Abuja-Gusau service is expected to strengthen connectivity between Zamfara and other parts of the country, while providing a faster option for passengers travelling for business, official engagements and family-related activities.
