The 2026 Ofala Festival in Onitsha, Anambra State, will focus on cultural preservation, community participation and the role of tradition in social development.
Globacom, which is sponsoring the festival for the 15th consecutive year, said the event would provide an opportunity to sustain Onitsha’s cultural practices and promote community involvement.
The festival will be held under the theme, “Igba Mbo, Iga N’Iru – Strive and Advance: From Resilience to Progress.” It will also mark the 25th Ofala Festival of the reign of Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha.
Globacom said its continued involvement in the festival reflected its support for cultural preservation and community development.
“For Globacom, Ofala is far more than an annual cultural celebration. It is a living expression of identity, continuity and collective aspiration,” the company said.
The company said the partnership reflected its view that cultural preservation and social development could reinforce each other.
The festival’s activities will include the international Oreze Art Exhibition, Youth Carnival, the Iru and Azu Ofala ceremonies, the Obi’s period of seclusion and ceremonial emergence, and a medical, health and wellbeing outreach programme.
Globacom also said its support for the festival was consistent with its focus on expanding access to telecommunications services, innovation and digital inclusion.
The company said improved access to telecommunications could help connect communities to information, services and economic opportunities.
