A political group, Banner of the Democracy Alliance (DA), has cautioned those seeking to represent the people of Imo West and North senatorial districts at the National Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop heating up the polity in the zones.
It asked the political gladiators to sort themselves out rather than trying to create unnecessary tension in the two senatorial districts of the state.
The group described the current crisis in the zones as a family problem that should be resolved ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement jointly signed by its chairman, Dr Ejiro Ernest, and secretary, Mr Dare Adu, in response to the controversy surrounding the party’s senatorial primaries in the state, particularly those for the Imo West and North senatorial zones, urged the political actors to resolve the disagreement rather than allowing the dispute to undermine APC’s preparations for the forthcoming elections.
“Whatever is happening in Imo State is a self-inflicted family problem, and the name of the deputy national chairman (South), Dr Nwoye, shouldn’t be on their lips, and they should seek ways to manage their crisis,” they insisted.
The group specifically urged the gladiators to set aside their differences and concentrate on delivering votes for the APC in the 2027 elections, as spearheaded by Dr Nwoye.
“We are using this medium to call on the key actors in this Imo West and North to clean up their mess and plan on how to deliver votes for the APC”.
The group also maintained that Dr Nwoye is occupied and too busy with his national responsibilities and mobilisation efforts across southern Nigeria in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection and other APC candidates and should not be distracted.
They further challenged those behind the allegations, and what they described as a media campaign, to come forward openly rather than operate through an organisation they characterised as a pseudo-group.
“The sponsors of the media onslaught should be bold enough to come out from hiding and face Nwoye, who roundly defeated them in the political contest, and not hide under a pseudo-group to drag his name into what he knows nothing about,” the statement added.
Their reaction followed a petition by the Justice and Democracy Network to APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, alleging that the party and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) documents relating to senatorial primaries in Imo State were manipulated.
The claims remain allegations contained in the petition and have not been established as proven wrongdoing.
However, the controversy centres on the disputed senatorial primaries in the state and the need to clarify the authenticity of the documents in question.
Democracy Alliance therefore urged the political actors involved to address their differences and prevent the dispute from distracting the APC from its preparations for the 2027 general election. Intere.
The statement noted that, since the said issue is already before the relevant quarters, dragging the name of the DNC into any petition would amount to cheap blackmail aimed at tarnishing his reputation and will be resisted.
