The PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon will offer $8,000 to the winner of the elite category when the race holds on November 14, 2026, in Abuja.
Organisers of the race have announced a prize package for athletes across the elite and Nigerian categories, with the competition expected to attract local and international long-distance runners.
Under the prize structure, the elite race winner will receive $8,000, while the second- and third-placed finishers will earn $6,000 and $5,000 respectively.
The fourth-placed athlete will take home $4,000, with the fifth-placed finisher earning $3,000. Athletes who finish sixth, seventh and eighth will receive $2,000, $1,000 and $500 respectively.
In the Nigerian category, the winner will receive ₦2 million, while the runner-up will earn ₦1.5 million and the third-placed finisher ₦1 million.
The fourth-placed Nigerian athlete will receive ₦500,000, with ₦300,000 earmarked for fifth place, ₦200,000 for sixth, ₦100,000 for seventh and ₦50,000 for eighth.
The organisers said the prize structure reflected PremiumTrust Bank’s commitment to promoting athletics and encouraging home-based runners to compete at a higher level.
The separate Nigerian category is designed to recognise and reward the performances of local athletes, providing them with an additional incentive to excel against competitors from within and outside the country.
The 21-kilometre race is expected to attract elite athletes, running clubs, corporate teams, fitness enthusiasts and supporters from across Nigeria and beyond.
The competition will also offer Nigerian runners an opportunity to test themselves against international opposition on home soil as they prepare for other national and international competitions.
With registration open, the organisers have urged interested athletes to sign up through the race’s official registration portal ahead of the November 14 event.
They said preparations were ongoing to ensure adequate arrangements for timing, security, medical support and traffic management throughout the race.
With the prize money announced, attention is expected to turn to the participating athletes as they intensify preparations for the Abuja road race
