The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the reported distribution of seven luxury sports utility vehicles (SUVs), estimated to be worth N1 billion, to its youth leaders, describing the gesture as insensitive to the economic hardship facing Nigerians.

The opposition party also demanded disclosure of the source of funding for the vehicles, questioning whether public resources were used to purchase them.

In a statement issued on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC accused the APC of prioritising its political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections over the welfare of Nigerians struggling with rising living costs.

The party said the reported distribution of the vehicles highlighted what it described as a disconnect between the sacrifices demanded of citizens and the privileges enjoyed by members of the ruling party.

“President Tinubu asks Nigerians to endure hardship while his party distributes luxury vehicles to its political operatives,” the statement said.

The ADC argued that while the APC had reportedly provided vehicles for its youth leaders to support grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, many young Nigerians remained confronted by unemployment and economic difficulties.

It questioned the ruling party’s commitment to youth empowerment, arguing that the provision of luxury vehicles to a few political operatives did little to address the challenges facing millions of young people.

The opposition party further challenged the APC to explain how the vehicles were funded, insisting that Nigerians deserved transparency over the expenditure.

“Nigerians deserve to know who paid for these vehicles. Until that question is answered, the ruling party cannot dismiss legitimate concerns about its priorities,” the statement added.
