Presidential aides have highlighted road construction and rehabilitation projects being undertaken by the administration of President Bola Tinubu across the country’s six geopolitical zones.

They urged Nigerians to support the government’s infrastructure drive ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The aides, who spoke during a media briefing at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said the projects were aimed at improving connectivity, stimulating economic activities, creating jobs and addressing longstanding infrastructure deficits across the country.

The aides were senior special assistants to the President on Community Engagement in the North-Central, North-West, North-East, South-South, South-East and South-West geopolitical zones.

They are Abiodun Essiet, Abdullahi Tanko Yakassai, Abdulhameed Abba, Gift Johnbull, Barrister Chioma Nweze and Moremi Ojudu.

Speaking on developments in the North-Central, Essiet said the administration was pursuing several road projects across the region, including the Abuja–Lokoja Road.
She said about 1,200 projects were ongoing in the region and disclosed that the President had approved a 78-kilometre road project in Kogi State.

Essiet also highlighted the construction of a road whose contract, according to her, was first awarded about 46 years ago. She said the project was being executed with reinforced concrete pavement to improve its durability and ability to withstand heavy-duty traffic.

She added that feedback from communities was being communicated to the President and the Federal Executive Council to ensure that the concerns of residents received government attention.

In the North-West, Yakassai highlighted major road and railway projects, including the Abuja–Kaduna Road, Kano–Kaduna Road and the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway.

He also cited the Kaduna–Kano railway project as part of the infrastructure developments expected to improve transportation and economic activities in the region.

In the North-East, Abba drew attention to road infrastructure projects intended to improve connectivity between communities and major economic centres.

Among the projects mentioned during the briefing was the proposed Akwanga–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri Superhighway, which is expected to improve movement across parts of the North-East and adjoining regions.

The aides said improved road infrastructure would reduce travel difficulties, facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce and strengthen commercial links between states.

In the South-South, Johnbull highlighted road projects, including the East–West Road, the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and the Benin–Agbor Road.

She said investments in road infrastructure were important to improving transportation, supporting businesses and strengthening economic activities across the region.

Johnbull also highlighted the importance of completing critical road projects to improve access to communities and commercial centres.

In the South-East, Nweze highlighted road projects such as the Enugu–Onitsha Road and the Enugu–Port Harcourt Road, alongside infrastructure intended to improve transportation links between the region and other parts of the country.

She said infrastructure development could stimulate economic growth, create employment and provide opportunities for young Nigerians to acquire technical skills through participation in construction projects.

Nweze also linked infrastructure investments to the administration’s broader economic reforms, arguing that improved roads and other public projects could support businesses and enhance productivity.

In the South-West, Ojudu highlighted major road projects, including the Apapa–Oworonshoki–Ojota–Oshodi Expressway, the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway.

The projects, she said, were important to improving transportation, easing the movement of goods and supporting commercial activities in the region.

The aides maintained that road construction and rehabilitation remained central to the administration’s infrastructure agenda, particularly in improving connections between urban centres, rural communities and economic hubs.

They also argued that sustained investment in infrastructure would help address longstanding transportation challenges and create a foundation for economic development.

The briefing formed part of the administration’s efforts to communicate its policies and projects to Nigerians through community engagement and public sensitisation.

The aides called for continued support for the government’s development agenda as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
