FCT Police Arrest NSCDC Officer for Shooting at Kubwa Market

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly firing multiple gunshots into the air at a market in Kubwa, Abuja.

The suspect, identified as Onoja Samuel, a Deputy Superintendent of Corps, was arrested after police operatives responded to a distress call about the incident.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to Adeh, the Kubwa Police Division received the distress call at about 1:50 p.m. on October 25, 2026, reporting that an armed man was shooting sporadically at a market in the area.

“Upon receipt of the report, Police operatives attached to Kubwa Division were promptly deployed to the scene. Following concerted efforts, the suspect was successfully disarmed and arrested,” she said.

Adeh explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the NSCDC officer had gone to the market armed with a pistol following reports that some traders had assaulted his wife.

She said the situation escalated into an altercation during which the officer allegedly fired several shots into the air.

The police spokesperson added that a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition were recovered from the suspect.

“The suspect is currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” Adeh stated.

Meanwhile, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has urged personnel of sister security agencies to exercise restraint and ensure proper coordination with the police when conducting authorised operations.

Sanusi advised security personnel to notify the divisional police headquarters responsible for any area where they intend to operate, stressing the need for inter-agency coordination to prevent avoidable friction.

The police command reiterated the importance of cooperation among security agencies in maintaining law and order across the FCT.
