A fire outbreak has destroyed 12 shops and containers at Gezawa Market in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Kano State Fire Service said the incident occurred at about 5:15 am on Monday, 2 November 2026.
The Public Relations Officer of the service, PFS Kabiru Jafaru, disclosed this in a statement, saying the agency received a distress call from one Ibrahim Sani, who reported the fire.
He said firefighters promptly mobilised to the scene and extinguished the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the market.
According to Jafaru, the affected properties comprised one shop, four containers and seven temporary shops, all of which were destroyed by the fire.
He quoted the Director of the Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, as urging residents and traders to observe necessary fire safety precautions, particularly during the harmattan season, to prevent similar incidents.
