The Police Service Commission (PSC), has approved the deployment of four commissioners of police to Plateau, Enugu, Nasarawa and Ondo states as part of efforts to strengthen police leadership and improve security administration across the country.
The newly posted commissioners were selected following interviews conducted by the commission to assess their competence, experience and suitability for the responsibilities of their new offices.
The postings, announced on Thursday at PSC Headquarters, Abuja, are expected to bring fresh leadership to the four state police commands.
The affected officers are CP Sunday J. A. Okoebor, who has been posted to Plateau State; CP Fidelis Ogarabe, Enugu State; CP Sheikh Mohammed Danko, Nasarawa State; and CP Johnson Ayodeji Babalola, Ondo State.
Before their new appointments, Okoebor served as Commissioner of Police, Police Accounts and Budget, Force Headquarters; Ogarabe was CP, INTERPOL Annex, Lagos; Danko headed the Force Intelligence Annex, Lagos; while Babalola served as CP, Special Inquiry, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The PSC chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu, who was represented by a board member, Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (JSC rtd), said the postings were made in accordance with Section 215(1)(b) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the commission to appoint commissioners of police for the states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Argungu said the commission found the four officers worthy in learning and character after assessing them during the interview process.
He urged the newly deployed commissioners to discharge their responsibilities with impartiality, professionalism and integrity, stressing the need for them to live up to the expectations of their new positions.
The PSC said the appointments followed its statutory responsibility for the appointment and deployment of senior police officers, with the new commissioners expected to provide effective leadership in their respective commands.
