The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sworn in 1,677 corps members deployed to Bauchi State for the 2026 Batch C, Stream II service year.
The corps members, comprising 752 males and 925 females, took the oath of allegiance on Friday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Wailo, in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Umoren Kufre, disclosed this during the swearing-in ceremony, saying the corps members were drawn from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He said the three-week orientation exercise commenced on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, and was designed to prepare the corps members mentally, physically and psychologically for the challenges of the one-year national service.
According to him, activities lined up for the exercise include paramilitary drills, citizenship and leadership training, physical exercises, lectures, skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development.
Kufre expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the corps members since their arrival at the camp, noting that they had demonstrated humility, patriotism, loyalty and commitment to the ideals of the scheme.
He urged them to maintain discipline and strictly comply with the rules and regulations guiding activities at the orientation camp.
The coordinator also advised them to channel their grievances through the appropriate authorities rather than resort to actions capable of disrupting peace and order.
He assured the corps members that the camp management would continue to provide basic amenities, stressing that their safety and comfort remained a priority.
Kufre commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his continued support for the NYSC scheme in the state, particularly his commitment to the welfare and security of corps members.
In his remarks, Governor Mohammed said his administration had completed the renovation of corps members’ hostels and constructed a new multipurpose hall at the orientation camp.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Bashir Yau, congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of their academic programmes and welcomed them to Bauchi State.
He described the NYSC scheme as an important platform for promoting national unity and integration, noting that the orientation exercise was designed to develop the physical, psychological, mental and intellectual capacities of Nigerian youths.
Mohammed urged the corps members to embrace the opportunity to serve the country with dedication, stressing that Nigeria’s future depended largely on the commitment and contributions of its young people.
He further charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by the nation by contributing meaningfully to national development and transformation.
The Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, represented by Justice Abdulsalam Waziri, administered the oath of allegiance to the corps members.
