Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari (Marafan Sokoto) is a man whose life in public service reads like a blueprint for consistency, patience, and results. He stands tall among the most consistent, calm, and impactful political figures in Nigeria’s contemporary history.

His journey is not one of shortcuts or overnight fame. Rather, it is a journey from the trenches of grassroots party work to the chambers of federal legislation, and from the weight of executive leadership to the responsibility of national representation in the Senate. At every stage, his path has been marked by focus, resilience, discipline, and an abiding commitment to the people he serves.

Every enduring political structure must rest on a solid foundation. Senator Yari’s foundation was laid early and with purpose. He began as the State Secretary of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), where he undertook the critical task of organising the party from Ward to Ward and from Local Government to Local Government. It was here that he began to demonstrate his belief that politics is not merely about elections—it is about structure, loyalty, and trust.

His competence soon propelled him to the position of State chairman of the ANPP in Zamfara State. In that role, he became the face of opposition politics in the state. Calm in temperament yet firm in conviction, he gave the opposition a voice and direction at a time when both were needed most.

His reputation for discipline and prudent management of party resources subsequently led to his appointment as the ANPP National Financial Secretary. There, he proved that leadership is not measured by noise but by order, accountability, and foresight.

In 2009, when crisis struck and the ANPP State executive defected en masse to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), during the reign of His Excellency Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi, Senator Yari was entrusted with the difficult task of heading the ANPP State Caretaker Committee. His mandate was clear: rebuild the party from the ruins. And rebuild it he did—brick by brick, ward by ward.
