A four-year-old girl, Jane John (not her real name) , who was kidnapped alongside her pregnant mother in Kaduna village, has been left critically ill after seven months in captivity, during which she lost her mother and newborn sibling.
According to information provided by ex governor media aide, Reuben Buhari, jane’s mother gave birth in the bush after about 90 days in captivity, but the baby died due to the harsh conditions and lack of medical assistance.
Her mother also died days later, leaving the little girl alone in the hands of her captors.
Jane reportedly turned four while in captivity, enduring hunger, sickness, fear and loneliness.
“At some point, there were fears that she might have also died before she and a few other captives were finally released on November 2, 2026.
“Following her release, the little girl is now critically ill at an undisclosed hospital, where she is fighting for her life.
“Her father is reportedly seeking financial assistance to transfer her to a better-equipped hospital for further treatment,” Buhari said.
Buhari, who shared the heartbreaking account on his Facebook page on Saturday, appealed to Nigerians to pray for the little girl’s speedy recovery, as she struggles to overcome the physical and emotional trauma of her prolonged captivity.
This is another case of sexual and gender based violence posed to several communities especially those who are vulnerable to persistent kidnapping and other preventable insecurity.
