Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has approved the appointment of former chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhaji Idris Usman Sambo, as the substantive managing director of the Bauchi State Television Authority (BATV).
The appointment was conveyed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Aminu Hammayo.
According to a statement issued on Friday by Mukhtar Gidado, the appointment was based on Sambo’s impressive academic qualifications, wealth of professional experience, meritorious service and profound understanding of media operations in Bauchi State.
Gidado described Sambo as an accomplished media professional with considerable experience in the state’s media industry.
He noted that the new BATV managing director had previously served as managing director of the Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC) and chairman of the NUJ Bauchi Council, where he demonstrated professional competence and commitment to the development of journalism and the media sector.
The governor expressed confidence that Sambo’s wealth of experience, administrative expertise and intimate knowledge of the state’s media landscape would contribute significantly to repositioning BATV for greater efficiency, professionalism and improved service delivery.
He charged the new managing director to deploy his experience in strengthening the institution’s operational capacity, promoting responsible journalism, embracing innovation and ensuring that the television station remains a credible platform for information dissemination, public enlightenment and education.
He also called on the management and staff of BATV, as well as other stakeholders in the media industry, to extend their full cooperation and support to Sambo to enable him discharge his responsibilities effectively.
Governor Mohammed congratulated the new managing director on what he described as a well-deserved appointment and wished him a successful and rewarding tenure.
