Lagos State government has commenced the distribution of palliative materials to its residents to cushion the biting effects of cash crunch resulting from the naira redesigned policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other challenges caused by the lingering  fuel scarcity.

Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu had promised that his administration would cushion the effects of the hardship being experienced by Lagosians as a result of fuel scarcity and lack of currency from the banks.

The beneficiaries included the vulnerable, civil servants, among others.

At the flag-off of the exercise at the state’s secretariat,  Sanwo-Olu who was represented by his deputy Dr. Obafemi Hamzat said the distribution is continuous as the government will be reaching out to the religious centres, non-governmental organisation (NGO) and other distribution channels across the state.

He said the palliatives are to cushion the biting effects of the current scarcity of Naira occasioned by the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN’s) Naira swap policy and the lingering fuel scarcity in the state.

Earlier, the  commissioner for women affairs and poverty alleviation (WAPA), Mrs. Cecelia Dada stated that the state government had put together the palliative measures for Lagosians by distributing food to the vulnerable .

Dada saidthe state government was mindful of the welfare of its people, adding that the challenges faced by citizens are due to the naira swap and difficulty in accessing money.
