Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has openly declared support for presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi in place of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

In a telephone conversation with our correspondent in respect of a video making rounds on social media where the governor publicly endorsed Obi/Datti and asked all his supporters to vote the LP candidate, the chief press secretary to the governor, Nathaniel Ikyur, said the endorsement took place in Makurdi.

He, however, debunked the insinuations that with this development, the governor had left the G-5 Governors and parted ways with the Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike.

Obi, who was supposed to attend a town hall meeting with  PDP stakeholders from the 23 local government areas of Benue State and as well pay a courtesy call on the governor before the commencement of the meeting was unable to come due to bad weather.

Our correspondent gathered that the meeting was organised by the state Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in support of the presidential candidate of Obi-Datti.
