A non-governmental organisation, Gamji Members Association (GAMA) has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) efforts for the conduct of the 2023 general election.
GAMA, one of the accredited Domestic Observers for the 2023 general elections, said having followed the laid down rules on Observations, INEC has improved.
In a statement signed by the national president Dr. Abdullahi Bala Isa made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday in Abuja the Electoral Commission’s said the new method of accrediting Observers by the Commission was commendable, saying it has generally reduced the usual wastages associated with the issuance of large numbers as observers
He noted that the different stages of electioneering which includes trial, monitoring of party primaries, election conduct, and declaration of results were generally better organised than the previous ones.
Isa urged INEC to procure more vehicles for the transportation of electoral materials instead of relying on hired and commercial means of conveying the electoral materials to avoid delays witnessed.
“Efforts should be made to make arrangements that will see to the early arrival of electoral officials to voting locations. The Commission should look at the deficient technicalities associated with BVAS as raised by Observers.
The election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission was free and fair and there was an improvement on the ‘2019’ general elections.”
He, however, congratulated INEC for the successful conduct of the exercise.
