Traders affected by the Monday’s fire outbreak at the popular Singer Market in Kano, have called on the Federal and Kano State governments to come to their aid in order to ameliorate their sufferings.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP on Tuesday, one of the traders, Alhaji Abdulkadir Singer, said the call was necessary in order to cushion the effects of the devastating disaster on the affected traders.

According to him, no fewer than 500 traders in the market were affected by the inferno, which razed down more than 300 shops.

He said the appeal was also imperative in view of the fact that most of the affected traders have between five and 10 persons that work under them.

“A number of the traders who lost their wares to the inferno have many people who work under them in order to fend for themselves and their families.

“So, on behalf of the chairman of the traders, I wish to appeal to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and President Muhammadu Buhari to support us as most of the affected traders have lost everything to the inferno,” he said.

Also speaking, another trader, Shamsudeen Bello, said it was a pity that the fire incident happened when people were already suffering as a result of the Federal Government’s policy on currency swap.

He said the fire incident coupled with the new Naira issues had not only compounded the problem but crippled business activities in the market.

He, therefore, urged the State and Federal Governments to assist the affected traders so as to alleviate their sufferings.

He, however, lauded the effort of the personnel of the State Fire Service and other private companies for their timely intervention during the incident.
